Jason Voorhees won’t be coming back to theaters in 2020, but that doesn’t mean Friday the 13th fans can’t have some fun with the iconic slasher movie character this summer. From The OP, the new officially licensed board game Friday the 13th: Horror at Camp Crystal Lake has just gone on sale, so now horror fans can pick it up for $29.99 at the company’s official website.
Friday the 13th: Horror at Camp Crystal Lake will allow you and your friends to play as one of six camp counselors, each inspired by famous slasher movie stereotypes. This includes The Final Girl, The Partier, The Nerd, The Jock, The Diva, and The Nice Guy. The goal is to survive five nights at the infamous campground, utilizing different cards to gather weapons or supplies while avoiding the murderous hockey mask-wearing murderer.
From The OP:
Reach into a closed Camp Bag to secure an ax, keys, cleaver, gas tank, flashlight, or frying pan and keep them on your person. But be careful, Jason Tokens that represent his encounters are also inside, and ending up with two of them drops the proverbial hammer on your place in the game. Players continue stockpiling Supply Tokens, backstabbing fellow counselors with Fear Cards, and vying for additional bonuses until one person makes it through with the most points.
Every turn gives you the choice to draw from the camp bag, put a card into play, or return to the cabin where you can safely bank points (or others can pull you out to continue the fight). Just hope that you have the Escape Tokens to fend off Jason and make it out alive!
The specifics of the ongoing lawsuit over the rights to Friday the 13th are a bit confusing, but what’s clear is that there’s not going to be any official films in the series entering production anytime soon (fan films notwithstanding). However, certain merchandise based on the series can still be released, including the recent announcement of the upcoming Scream Factory Blu-ray collection featuring all 12 Friday the 13th films. A new NECA figure based on Jason Voorhees from The New Blood is also on the way. What everyone wants most is probably a new film, but at least we can get some pretty rad collectibles in the meantime.
