It’s been entirely too long since Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were the focus of a horror comedy. The last time we got to see a story starring the duo was in The World’s End (2013), the third film in Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy. It looks like the wait is over, as Pegg and Frost are joining James Serafinowicz and Nat Saunders to co-create Truth Seekers.
This Amazon exclusive series is about a ghost-hunting team that travels across the UK to uncover and film ghost sightings, and post their findings on the internet. As the team’s adventures grow more serious and sometimes even deadly, they start to uncover a conspiracy that may be detrimental to all of humanity.
Amazon signed on for the full series, and the first eight episodes (each with a 30 minute runtime) will be helmed by short film and TV director Jim Field Smith with production tentatively starting this month. When Pegg was asked about the tone of the show and its comparison with other horror comedies during a recent Comic-Con panel, he said, “You just have to not make fun of the horror. The key with horror comedy is to take the horror completely seriously and allow the comedy to exist adjacent to it.”
This makes the second Amazon exclusive series that Pegg has been a part of, The Boys being the first. Truth Seekers will also feature Emma D’Arcy, Samson Kayo, Susan Wokoma, and horror icon Malcolm McDowell. The series hopes to premiere in Winter 2020.
