The Walking Dead is coming to an end, as AMC has confirmed that the series will be finished after its upcoming Season 11. Since 2010, The Walking Dead has been one of the most popular shows on television, finally bringing zombie horror to mainstream audiences. While the series has lost many fan favorite characters and millions of viewers over the years, it was still going pretty strong with no telling when exactly the show would reach the end of the road.
In a statement, executive producer Scott Gimple said this.
“It’s been 10 years ‘gone bye;’ what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that. What’s clear is that this show has been about the living, made by a passionate cast, team of writer/producers, producers, and crew, bringing to life the vision put forth by Robert Kirkman in his brilliant comic — and supported by the best fans in the world. We have a lot of thrilling story left to tell on TWD, and then, this end will be a beginning of more Walking Dead — brand new stories and characters, familiar faces and places, new voices, and new mythologies. This will be a grand finale that will lead to new premieres. Evolution is upon us. The Walking Dead lives.”
For the fans upset to see that the show will be over in 2021, word of The Walking Dead ending also brings news that multiple spinoffs will keep the franchise going. This includes a new series following Daryl and Carol, with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride reprising their roles. The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang will also be working on the show. Another anthology series set in the TWD universe is also in the works, and the future could bring even more as well. Of course, these spinoffs are also in addition to Fear the Walking Dead and The World Beyond.
Season 11 of The Walking Dead will air its first 12 episodes in 2021, and the final 12 episodes will air on AMC in 2022.
