If you didn’t get a chance to catch Friday on the 13th on the big screen in 1980, you’ll get another chance this fall to see it four decades after the classic slasher flick was first released in theaters. Directed by Sean Cunningham and written by Victor Miller, the first Friday the 13th remains a favorite for many fans of the franchise, and Betsy Palmer’s portrayal of the murderous Pamela Voorhees is still widely celebrated by horror fans to this day.

For the month of October, Fathom Events has organized a return to theaters for Friday the 13th. Presenting a newly restored version of the beloved horror film, the movie will be showing on two nights only: Sunday, Oct. 4 and Wednesday, Oct. 7, each at 7 p.m. local time. In addition to the movie, the event will also screen the special Secrets Behind the Gore: Friday the 13th, featuring Tom Savini speaking about the makeup and FX work that went into bringing Friday the 13th to life four decades ago.

In the original Friday the 13th, Jason Voorhees is present (as played by a young Ari Lehman), but he is not the movie’s killer. That would be his mother, who is revealed to be killing camp counselors as a way of keeping Camp Crystal Lake from reopening after her son had drowned in the lake many years prior. The film also stars Adrienne King as final girl Alice, a role that she will later reprise for the sequel. Kevin Bacon also stars as one of Mrs. Voorhees’ unfortunate victims in the classic film in one of his first acting roles.
