‘Animal Crossing’ Gets Spooky in Free Halloween Update

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween update (Nintendo)

Halloween content is coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons at the end of the month, just in time for the spooky holiday season. The free Fall update will introduce plenty of new content for the game to make it much spookier, such as the ability to grow pumpkins and purchase various costumes and Halloween candy. It all leads up to a big town celebration for your village on the final day in October, which will also introduce a mysterious special guest with a pumpkin head.

Per Nintendo, here’s what will happen in the game on Oct. 31.

Neighbors will gather in the plaza, which will be adorned with an array of Halloween decorations. You’ll also receive a visit from a mysterious guest, Jack, the “czar of Halloween.” By giving Jack lollipops and candy, you’ll earn spooky in-game rewards. Be sure to save some candy for your neighbors, too, or you might get pranked! Luckily, you can learn a couple of new Reactions to properly express your feelings of fear.

Along with the free Fall update will come a new collectible gift for players. A tweet from Nintendo of America reveals that a digital Ring Con controller from Ring Fit Adventure will also be sent to every player. It’s just another sweet bonus for those of us players who’ve been trying to collect as many Nintendo-themed items in the game as possible.

The Fall update will go live for all New Horizons players on Sept. 30. A NookLink update is also planned for early October. The end of the year holiday theme has also been confirmed, with another free update coming in late November. You can watch the official trailer for the new Halloween content below!
