The first teaser trailer for Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead has arrived ahead of the film’s Netflix debut in May. Directed by Snyder, the film is co-written by Snyder, Shay Hatten, and Joby Harold. As revealed by Netflix, the movie will begin streaming on May 21, 2021.

It’s great to see Snyder returning to zombie horror. His directorial debut, 2004’s Dawn of the Dead remake penned by James Gunn, is a pretty solid zombie flick. Snyder had been trying to do Army of the Dead as a follow-up film for years after Dawn of the Dead was released, but the project never made any traction until Netflix finally jumped on board. Lead star Dave Bautista also turned down a role in James Gunn’s next film The Suicide Squad to do Army of the Dead as he’d been chomping at the bit to do a zombie project.

Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Garret Dillahunt, Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Huma Qureshi, Samantha Win, Richard Cetrone, and Michael Cassidy.

The spin Snyder is putting on this film is that it’s a zombie movie with a dash of Ocean’s Eleven. Bautista’s character will lead a group on a mission to break into a casino vault in a quarantine zone, all the while avoiding bites from the living dead. Per the official synopsis: Following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
