Last weekend, I posted an article mentioning five artists or bands I feel you should be listening to, which you can read here. I was very surprised at the overwhelming response we received to it, especially for rising Japanese metal titans Nemophila, who claimed the top spot. They’re on the verge of international success and I’m going to make sure to support them every step of the way. The release of their album Oiran: Extended Edition from JPU Records on June 25, 2021, is just around the corner (it also happens to have the biggest amount of pre-orders for any title currently in the JPU Records catalog). That’s very exciting news for all parties involved, and just the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come.
There’s been a lot of discussion lately about livestream concerts and whether or not a pre-recorded show is still considered a livestream. I’m not going to debate this because I can see it from both angles, but as long as it’s a live show that’s never been seen before, who cares? It’s only a matter of time before we get to attend live shows again in person, but for now, I’ll take what I can get. Not to mention, it may be the only way to see many of these bands who don’t tour the entire world. In the case of Nemophila, they’re just getting started, but who is to say they won’t tour the world sooner than later? With the time and work they’ve put into making it something special, their fans won’t be disappointed.
Coming June 19th, 2021, Nemophila will bring the live experience to streaming with their pre-recorded “Soko to Koko (There and Here)” show. In order to give fans the best representation of their stage show, it has been recorded in advance. Starting today, May 28, 2021, you can pre-order the event through the entertainment and streaming site Zaiko. For 3,000 Yen (roughly $30), the event will run for two+ hours and deliver everything you would want in a live show, and more. The show will be broadcast in two parts, with part one airing (for free) on their YouTube channel while the main show will, of course, be viewed through Zaiko.
It’s easy to sign up, but you do need to create a free account to view. I purchased a live show through them a couple of months ago (Japanese Pop/Punk legends Shonen Knife) and not only was I treated to the live event, but shown a collection of music videos from the band before the show aired. I’m not exactly sure what all Nemophila has planned, but there will be bonus content included so I’m willing to bet this will be well worth your time and hard earned cash.
So, on June 19th at 18:00 (6pm in Japan), you can check this out for yourself. If you live in the United States, getting up at 5am EST (2am PST) might not be ideal, but the show will be available to view On Demand through June 22nd so you can watch at your leisure. Join Mayu, Saki, Hazuki, Haraguchi-san, and Murata Tamu for what’s sure to be a killer time.
