Filmmaker Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘R Treat, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) is finally getting to release the version of his 2015 Christmas horror film Krampus that he always wanted.
On November 16th, Scream Factory is releasing Krampus: The Naughty Cut. This 4K version of the film will include darker, harsher, and more horrific never-before-seen scenes and dialogue that were forced out of the original theatrical release by the MPAA. The original release was rated PG-13, which left Dougherty unsatisfied.
Dougherty himself has supervised this new cut, and Scream Factory has called this release the “definitive” edition of the film. The original theatrical release will not be included. This new version will be released as a Collector’s Edition, including a case slipcover featuring brand-new art from Devon Whitehead, an artist who has worked with Scream Factory on several occasions.
Krampus follows the story of Max (Emjay Anthony), a boy whose Christmas spirit is crushed by his problematic family, headed by parents Tom (Adam Scott) and Sarah (Toni Collette). Max frustratingly disrespects the spirit of Christmas and accidentally summons Krampus, a demon who punishes those who are naughty. Max and his family must try to survive as Krampus and his minions punish Max and the others, one-by-one.
Many fans consider the title one of the best Christmas horror films and watch it every holiday season.
