Fresh off the success of Midnight Mass, Netflix has already announced another partnership with Mike Flanagan, who has made quite a name for himself in the horror genre over the past decade. Flanagan will be once again teaming up with Intrepid Pictures, the team that worked on The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, to bring The Fall of the House of Usher to Netflix.
The newly announced series, based on a short story written by Edgar Allen Poe in 1839, falls right into Flanagan’s wheelhouse by highlighting the effects of madness and isolation on a family. The eight-part series is unrelated to Flanagan’s previous Netflix works, and he will only be directing four of the episodes, while cinematographer Michael Fimognari (Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House) will be directing the other four.

The Fall of the House of Usher was previously adapted for film in 1960 by director Roger Corman and writer Richard Matheson, titled House of Usher. It starred Vincent Price, Mark Damon, Myrna Fahey, and Harry Ellerbe. You can check out the original trailer for the film here.
Though no release date or casting information has been released, most likely the series will come sometime in 2022, after the 2021 release of The Midnight Club, the fourth horror series from Netflix, Flanagan, and Intrepid Pictures, based on the book by Christopher Pike, and starring Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights, Midnight Mass), Samantha Sloyan (Midnight Mass) and scream queen Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street).
