A Kickstarter for the video game sequel of the 2015 cult classic film Turbo Kid is now live. A “gory homage to classic Metroidvanias,” the game will continue the story of The Kid and follow his adventures across the Wasteland. It will release on PC and the Nintendo Switch.
Synopsis: Our story begins immediately after the events of the movie. As the Kid, you must cross the Wasteland. On your way, you will meet an array of colorful characters, some friends, some foes, and some in-between, who will offer advice, quests, fights, and jokes (lots of jokes).
Yes, you have lost someone dear to you in a tragic incident, but you must persevere! If you are to honor your friend’s memory, you will need to become a hero, even if it sometimes feels like you bit off more than you could chew. This means relying on the lessons of the past, your valiant heart, your machete, and your Turbo Blaster to face your fears.

There are some awesome perks for backers, and several tiers to choose from, starting at $25 (or, $10 without a perk) up to $2500. Some of the perks are limited, so fans will want to check out the campaign as soon as possible. Packages include different combinations of: physical game copies, early access to the demo, a poster, a pin, backer name in credits, the soundtrack on audio cassette, digital wallpaper, a T-shirt, access to a private Discord server with the game devs, a physical copy of an all-new comic book by Jeik Dion, and more.
The Outerminds dev team is working hard to make adapt the modern retro-feel of the post-apocalyptic film, saying, “When devising a Turbo Kid video game, we wanted to honor the essence of the film, mainly, to make a game that includes everything we love about the ’80s and ’90s with a modern twist. Being a pixel-art powerhouse, we wholeheartedly embraced the retro look and feel of our favorite run-and-gun platformers and Metroidvanias; like Mega Man X, Super Metroid, and Out of this World. Basically, we’re making a brand new game that’ll make you feel like a kid… The Kid!”
