It’s time to rev up those chainsaws for a ninth time, as David Blue Garcia’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre is set for a Netflix release early next year. The new film will be a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic horror flick and will pick up many decades after the first film, according to the film’s producers.
The new film will follow a group of young adults interested in the business opportunity of running a small Texas town, unaware of the past behind it, and disturbing the evil that lives within.

Leatherface will be portrayed by franchise newcomer Mark Burnham, the ninth actor to step into the iconic role. He’s joined by Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Elise Fisher (Despicable Me), Nell Hudson (Outlander), and Jacob Latimore (The Chi). Olwen Fouéré (Mandy) has also been cast as Sally, the final girl from the 1974 film. Original actress Marilyn Burns passed away in 2014.
Writer and producer Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead 2013, Don’t Breathe) told EW, “It felt familiar somehow because it took us back to when I did Evil Dead. Me and Rodo really wanted to make sure we don’t disappoint the fans, and we are [among them]. So, it’s pretty hardcore. But at the same time, it has the simplicity of that first film. We wanted to come up with a very simple premise [with] a powerful domino effect. Everything is set up in the right place — all you have to do is push the first domino and everything will happen effortlessly.”

Much like the new David Gordon Green trilogy and the Halloween franchise, this new film will erase the events of Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) and any subsequent films that followed, the most recent being released in 2017.
Garcia’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre will release on February 18th, 2022, on Netflix. Check out the new teaser below!
