To kick off Sony’s State of Play live stream on Thursday, the long-awaited Resident Evil 4 Remake was officially announced. Rumored initially as part of a leak back in 2020, the game is now confirmed to be in development and will be launching early next year.
Though no gameplay has been shown off yet, we got a rather pretty cinematic trailer showcasing the familiar characters and setting from the game. Per a post on the PlayStation Blog, rather than a straight-up remake, the game will be more of a “re-imagining” of the original game with hopes to “achieve state-of-the-art quality for a survival horror suitable for 2023 while preserving the essence of the original game.”
Additionally, it was teased that PlayStation VR 2 content is in development for the game, but the details of what that might be have yet to get announced. The Resident Evil 4 Remake is set to launch on March 24th, 2023, on PlayStation 5.

In Resident Evil 4, special agent Leon S. Kennedy is sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. President’s daughter who has been kidnapped. Finding his way to a rural village in Europe, he faces new threats that are a departure from the traditional lumbering zombie enemies of the earlier installments in the series.
Leon battles horrific new creatures infested by a new threat called Las Plagas and faces off against an aggressive group of enemies including mind-controlled villagers that are tied to Los Illuminados, the mysterious cult which is behind the abduction.
