Rotten Tomatoes has announced the 24th Annual Golden Tomato Awards, which honors the highest-rated movies and television shows in 2022. The previous year had a lot to offer horror fans, so which films made the cut? And, of course, how can you go back and check out any titles you may have missed?

Ti West’s X, starring Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Martin Henderson, and Brittany Snow, is the top-rated 2022 horror film. A group of filmmakers staying in a remote cabin must fight for their lives after the elderly property owners go on a murderous rampage. As the 24th Annual Golden Tomato Awards winner, the consensus is that “X marks the spot where Ti West gets resoundingly back to his horror roots.”
The film kicked off a trilogy, with the third film, MaXXXine, currently in development.

2Barbarian
Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgard, Justin Long, and Matthew Patrick Davis, is the second film on the list. The story follows two travelers who unknowingly book the same rental in a run-down Detroit neighborhood. However, it quickly becomes apparent that something far more sinister lurks within.
According to our review, Barbarian is “a near-perfect blend of classic and elevated horror.”

3Hellbender
Hellbender, starring Zelda Adams, Toby Poser, Lulu Adams, and John Adams, rings in at #3. The coming-of-age film follows an overprotective mother who tries to shield her daughter from the dark witchcraft that plagues their family.
According to our review, the film offers something “different for the witchcraft/coming-of-age subgenres.”

Sissy, starring Aisha Dee, Yerin Ha, Lucy Barrett, and Hannah Barlow, is fourth on the list of top-rated 2022 horror films. The story revolves around a social media influencer who reconnects with an old friend and attends her hen party. The trip soon reveals old secrets and resentment, resulting in bloodshed.
Aisha Dee’s performance, dark humor, and relevant social themes are praised by Rotten Tomatoes.

5You Won’t Be Alone
You Won’t Be Alone, starring Noomi Rapace, Anamaria Marinca, Alice Englert, and Carloto Cotta, is ranked fifth. The story is set in nineteenth-century Macedonia and follows a girl who is kidnapped by a witch and transformed into one. With no knowledge of the outside world, the girl yearns to know what it is like to be human, and she accomplishes this by shapeshifting into her victims and living their lives.
Rotten Tomatoes notes, “although it may strike some as too artsy for its own good, You Won’t Be Alone puts a thoughtfully fresh spin on familiar horror tropes.”

6Saloum
Saloum, directed by Jean Luc Herbulot and starring Yann Gael, Mentor Ba, and Roger Sallah, follows a group of mercenaries on a mission to extract a drug lord. Before reaching their final destination, they seek refuge in Saloum, Senegal, where they must contend with the elements, strange locals, and the supernatural.
Rotten Tomatoes calls the film “smart, dynamic, and fast-paced” and a “smoothly blended treat.”

7Pearl
Pearl is Ti West’s follow-up to X, starring Mia Goth, David Corenswet, Tandi Wright, and Matthew Sunderland. The prequel, set in 1918, delves into the titular character’s origins and dreams of stardom while living on a rural Texas farm.
Mia Goth’s outstanding performance is highlighted, which also made our list of the best 2022 horror performances. According to our review, the film is “a perfect complementary prequel in both style and tone.”

8Hatching

When she finds an egg in the woods and brings it home, it grows until it hatches into something utterly terrifying.

Last but not least, Anna Cobb and Michael J. Rogers star in Jane Schoenbrun’s We’re All Going to the World’s Fair. This “unusually ambitious and unsettling” coming-of-age horror follows a teen girl who takes part in an internet challenge. As she progresses through the challenge, the line between reality and the game begins to blur.
