Immaculate - Sydney Sweeney

Immaculate is an upcoming psychological horror film that just had its world premiere at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. Fortunately for horror fans, the film will not begin a year-long festival run, as many films do, and will be released later this month. If you’re wondering what the fuss is about, here’s everything you need to know!

Immaculate Plot

This religious horror film follows Cecilia, an American devoted Catholic, as she joins a convent in Italy. However, she is haunted by darkness, and the community around her becomes plagued by something sinister.

Following its SXSW premiere, the film currently has a 60% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Brian Tallerico with RogerEbert says, “There are SO many interesting themes to play with but the team behind Immaculate are almost defiant in their unwillingness to do anything interesting with them, too content to use jump scares instead of actually crafting mood or maintaining atmosphere.”

On the other hand, Chase Hutchinson with The Wrap stated, “Giving life to a horror vision that would not have nearly the same power and potency without her at the forefront of it, Sweeney has never been better than she is here. What a darkly beautiful yet brutal, bloody and bold film this is for her to wield.”

Cast & Crew

Sydney Sweeney, who stars as Spider-Woman alongside Dakota Johnson in Madame Web, plays Cecilia. The Marvel/Sony film is still in theaters and will be released physically and digitally next month. Sweeney starred in the rom-com Anyone but You with Glen Powell and plays Cassie Howard in Max’s Euphoria.
