Ah, the day of love. While some spend the holiday binge-watching their favorite romantic comedies, horror fans like things a little more blood-soaked. Whether it’s a disastrous dinner date, couples that slay together, or falling for a homicidal maniac, there are plenty of movies to celebrate twisted romance.
If you’re in the mood for some sinister fun, here are ten horror movies to stream on Valentine’s Day.
1Chopping Mall (1986)

Jim Wynorski’s Chopping Mall takes us to Park Plaza Mall, which takes a hardline stance against thieves. It deploys security robots equipped with nonlethal weapons such as tranquilizers and tasers. However, while patrolling after hours, the robots go haywire as lightning strikes the mall. This is unfortunate for the four young couples partying in one of the closed stores.

Chopping Mall has everything we want in an ’80s horror movie, including fun kills, an energetic synth soundtrack, and, of course, booze and sex. The cast features genre icons Kelli Maroney and Barbara Crampton and the late, great character actor Dick Miller. You can’t go wrong!
Where to watch: Crackle, Peacock, Pluto TV, Prime Video, Shudder, Tubi
2Fresh (2022)

Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan star as Noa and Steve in this meet-cute gone wrong. After a chance supermarket encounter, the pair moves quickly as Steve asks Noa to accompany him on a surprise weekend getaway. However, things get gruesomely intense as his surprising, sadistic motives are revealed.
In our review of the film, we loved its “darkly comedic feel” and suggest pairing it with Ready or Not (2019) for a “fantastic double feature.”
Where to watch: Hulu
3Lisa Frankenstein (2024)

Zelda Williams directed her first feature film, Lisa Frankenstein, last year. Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse star in the horror rom-com written by Diablo Cody, who also wrote Jennifer’s Body. The film follows morbid, outcast teen Lisa Swallows (Newton), who accidentally brings a Victorian-era corpse back to life.
Lisa Frankenstein is a quirky, vibrant, lighthearted adaptation with fun performances from Newton and Sprouse. Lisa’s eccentric ’80s-inspired fashion and aesthetic alone make it worth seeing.
Where to watch: Prime Video
4Little Monsters (2019)

This Australian zom-rom-com follows a failed musician, Dave (Alexander England), who agrees to chaperone his nephew’s school field trip to a farm after meeting his beautiful kindergarten teacher, Miss Audrey Caroline (Lupita Nyong’o). Unfortunately for everyone, the farm is located next to a military testing site, where zombie test subjects escape.
Josh Gad also stars as Teddy McGiggle, a children’s TV host who hilariously gets caught up in the carnage. If you don’t mind some bloodshed with your romance, this is one of the more underrated horror movies to stream on Valentine’s Day.
Where to watch: Hulu
5My Bloody Valentine (1981)

This Valentine’s Day horror list wouldn’t be complete without the film that reigns over them all—the original My Bloody Valentine. The film was released amid the holiday slasher trend, which began with Black Christmas (1974) and gained popularity with Halloween (1978).

Following a fatal mining accident caused by careless supervisors rushing to attend the town’s Valentine’s Day dance, surviving miner Harry Warden exacts his bloody revenge. Following the murders, the town of Valentine Bluffs halted the dance for two decades. However, the decision to bring back the celebration turns fatal.
The 2009 remake, My Bloody Valentine 3D, is streaming on Tubi and Prime Video if you’re game for a double feature.
Where to watch: Pluto TV, Shudder
6Scream (1996)

Scream may not be at the top of your list when considering horror movies to stream on Valentine’s Day, but it should be. The slasher is the epitome of falling for the wrong person and how twisted and confusing young love can be. Billy (Skeet Ulrich) also delivered one of the most romantic lines ever: “The Exorcist was on, and it got me thinking of ya.” Swoon.
If you’re up for a marathon, you’re in luck. Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), and Scream 3 (2000) are available on Max, while Scream (2022) and Scream 6 (2023) are on Netflix and Paramount+. Unfortunately, Scream 4 (2011) isn’t currently streaming but is available on VOD.
Where to watch: Max
7Subservience (2024)

In Subservience, humanoid robots are quickly taking over blue-collar and service jobs. When Nick (Michele Morrone), a father of two, finds himself as a solo parent while his wife (Madeline Zima) is hospitalized for a heart condition, he gets assistance from an android named Alice (Megan Fox). After modifying her programming, Alice becomes more violently obsessive, putting Nick and his family at risk.
Alice and Nick have steamy moments together, making for a sexy and sultry viewing experience.

8The Menu (2022)

A renowned chef (Ralph Fiennes) has lost his passion for his life’s work. For his final dinner service, he invites guests to his private island for an intimate meal while carrying out an intricate plan of comeuppance against those he holds responsible. However, things do not go as planned when one of his guests (Nicholas Hoult) arrives with an unlisted date (Anya Taylor-Joy).
The film is a perfect dinner date movie that satirizes classism and the restaurant industry.
Where to watch: Hulu, Netflix
9The Munsters (2022)

Rob Zombie’s The Munsters is the origin story of Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie) and Herman (Jeff Daniel Phillips) as they meet, fall in love, and relocate to the suburbs. This film is a significant departure from Zombie’s previous slate, foregoing foul-mouthed and controversial characters and favoring a lively, whimsical, and fun flick suitable for the whole family.

You can continue the fun with both seasons of the original The Munsters, which are currently streaming on Peacock.
Where to watch: Netflix
10The Prowler (1981)

The Prowler may be the final film on our list of horror movies to stream on Valentine’s Day, but it’s one of the best. This Joseph Zito-directed classic, also released as Rosemary’s Killer, follows a masked killer stalking college students as they prepare for a graduation ball. The story isn’t original and has been compared to My Bloody Valentine (1981), yet it stands out thanks to Tom Savini’s fantastic effects work.
A 1981 slasher double feature sounds like the perfect night in.
