It should come as no surprise that Halloween is my favorite time of year. Having two kids, it was almost impossible to decorate as we focused on trick-or-treating. Now that they’re grown, I’ve tried to go somewhat big in my yard, and as it grows every year, I certainly made an impression on my neighbors. This year is no different. Some people really enjoy throwing down when it comes to Halloween decorations, and in Screamityville, you get to see some of the best for 84 spooky minutes.

Screamityville is a ride through some of the most imaginative and unsettling Halloween displays ever caught on camera. It captures the nostalgic thrill of cruising through dark suburban streets on a crisp October night, hunting for the most elaborately decorated homes. But in Screamityville, those glowing jack-o’-lanterns and cobwebbed lawns might be more than just festive—they might be waiting for you.

Immersed in a chilling soundtrack of eerie ambience and ghostly effects, the film turns a familiar seasonal pastime into a hauntingly immersive journey through the strange, the spooky, and the spectacular.

Screamityville Blu-ray Review
Borderline Media

As much as I loved watching Screamityville, I still found it a bit frustrating. It shows off the homes and their displays from various angles, capturing them all with a haunted beauty that you’d hope for. I would have liked to see a title for each home—nothing too revealing for the homeowners—but perhaps the city. It just needed something to let the audience know where they have just traveled to within the confines of the journey.

I happened to visit a handful of the homes on Tilson Street in Romeo, MI, during the season. Every year, almost every home on that stretch of road goes overboard, and it’s a yearly tradition to visit it with the family. If I’d never been there, then I’d never have known. There are some fantastic displays featured, and the music captures the mood just as it should.

The Blu-ray is bare-bones, with no bonus features to speak of—just the film itself, which isn’t a bad thing. Do I recommend it? Yes, it’s fun, and if you have Halloween parties, it would be perfect to have playing in the background to set the mood. Borderline Media has released an interesting and unique feature for those filled with the Halloween spirit.
