Over two decades later, Spawn will finally be making his way back to the big screen. The Image Comics superhero created by Todd McFarlane will soon be getting an all new movie produced by Blumhouse, with McFarlane himself directing. And now we know just who our new Spawn will be!

As reported by Deadline, A-list actor Jamie Foxx will be portraying the titular superhero in the upcoming Spawn film. From Ray to Django Unchained, Foxx has proven himself to be one of the most formidable actors in Hollywood. There’s little doubt he’ll be able to play the part of this tortured soul expertly well.

“[Foxx] gets into a zone, with body language and a look that basically will say way more than anything I could type on a piece of paper, and this movie is going to need those moments,” McFarlane explains, referring to his decision to cast the actor. “And in the odd moment where he has to deliver a line that’s short, curt and has impact, he can do it in a way that makes you go, ‘Whoa, I don’t want to mess with that guy. What a badass.’”

Al Simmons, a.ka. Spawn, was originally played by Michael Jai White in the 1997 film. White previously expressed interest in returning to the role when this new adaptation was announced. Foxx himself also claimed he was “aggressively pursuing” the part as well as far back as 2013. Ultimately, there was something about Foxx which the studio preferred (which may or may not have been his star power).

No word yet on when Blumhouse’s Spawn will hit theaters.
