If there’s only one Marvel show on Netflix that you’ll ever give a chance, it needs to be The Punisher. Starring Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) as Frank Castle, the series is a direct spin-off of Daredevil where the character first debuted. Obviously based on the comic book series of the same name, The Punisher is the story of a man seeking bloody revenge on the criminal underworld after the ruthless murders of his family.
For fans of the gritty anti-hero, Netflix series is the best live-action adaptation of The Punisher yet. Netflix lets Marvel take the story as dark as they need it to be, while Bernthal has proven to be the perfect man for the role. It goes without saying that when the series premiered its first season back in 2017, fans have been waiting ever since for Netflix to release some new episodes.
As it is, the series isn’t expected to premiere until sometime next year. However, progress is being made, as filming now seems to be officially wrapped. This was announced over on Instagram by actor Jason R. Moore, who plays Curtis Hoyle on the show. A prominent character in the first season, Moore will be reprising his role in the second season.
Of course, you can plan on seeing some other familiar faces as well. Ben Barnes is coming back to play Billy “Jigsaw” Russo, as is fan favorite Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Karen Page on both seasons of Daredevil and Season 1 of The Punisher. Newcomers to the cast include Annette O’Toole (Halt and Catch Fire), Corbin Bernsen (American Gods), Josh Stewart (Insidious: The Last Key), Floriana Lima (Supergirl), and Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why).
Season 2 of The Punisher is set to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2019. Meanwhile, the streaming service will release Season 3 of Daredevil later this year. Stay tuned!
