Bill Murray and Ghostbusters co-star Dan Aykroyd will reportedly appear in the upcoming horror sequel Zombieland 2. Just how their cameos will be handled remains to be seen, but they’ll be apparently playing themselves. Of course, this raises an obvious question, as Murray’s cameo in the first film resulted in the actor’s death after a prank gone wrong. Could it be that Murray somehow survived that shotgun blast after all? Or will he be a long-zombified version of the beloved actor?

It’s curious that Akyroyd will be joining Murray in the movie as well. A mini-Ghostbusters reunion would certainly be enjoyable to see. Like Murray, we can only speculate as to whether Akyroyd will be a zombie or if he’ll also end up getting accidentally killed by one of the group members. Perhaps he’ll still be hanging out with a zombie Bill Murray, akin to the relationship between Ed and Shaun at the end of Shaun of the Dead. Considering how golden Murray’s cameo was in the first film, whatever’s in store for these actors in Zombieland 2 is going to be fun seeing play out.

All four of the lead actors from the original film are returning to reprise their roles. That means Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin are all coming back. Because all four have been keeping very busy in the decade since Zombieland, it’s taken ten years to get the sequel made. With director Ruben Fleischer and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick also returning, the pieces are all there for the sequel to be just as special as the first.

Aykroyd has also made headlines recently for suggesting that a new concept for Ghostbusters 3 is in the works. According to the actor, the script is so good that there’s no way Murray can say no to appearing in it. Perhaps the two can discuss it while filming their cameo for Zombieland 2.
