Netflix is bringing Jurassic World to the small screen, as DreamWorks Animation is developing an all-new animated series based on the film for the streaming service. Titled Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, the new series will be set during the events of 2015’s Jurassic World. It will follow a group of six teenage pals trapped in the park when the dinosaurs bust loose and start rampaging across the island, forcing them to set aside their differences if they want any hope for survival.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is not the only animated Jurassic World series currently in the works. Lego had previously made several short films set in the universe using their trademark animation style, and have since announced plans to produce a 13-episode animated series. The plan is for them to also release special toy sets in conjunction with the series. As of now, however, no official release date has been set, and it’s hard to say when the show will become available.
While the original Jurassic Park film trilogy was very popular, the Jurassic World movies are even more so. Both the first film and its 2018 sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom have made insane amounts of money at the box office, with a third movie coming in 2021. As clearly one of the heaviest hitting franchises at today’s movie theaters, it’s perhaps a better time than ever for the franchise to expand with these various animated programs as well.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous will debut on Netflix sometime in 2020. Stay tuned for more updates as new details become available.
