If you are anything like me, you grew up on Star Wars. When I was younger, I used to watch the original trilogy in my parents’ basement on a huge box TV with a VCR that always flashed 12:00. Quoting Yoda, mimicking light saber battles, and wondering why Storm Troopers never hit anything.
George Lucas decided to do three more prequels at the beginning of the 2000’s. Upon the outcries from fans, insisting the new movies ruined the original trilogy, Lucas sold the property to Disney. And we got stuck with The Last Jedi.
While I’ll always love Episode IV, V, and VI, I never got to appreciate it the way my parents or others before me did. In the movie theater.
This is something that, now, I can finally do.
Star Wars is releasing its final film in the “Skywalker” franchise this December. This particular movie, Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, will conclude the 9-episode long story that has spanned over the last 40 years.
AMC Theaters has decided that, on December 18th (two days before the release of Skywalker), they will hold a 27-hour marathon of all the canonical Star Wars films. When they advertise the marathon as “canonical,” they imply Episodes one through nine will be shown. This marathon is anticipated to omit titles like Battle for Endor, Solo, or Rogue One, among others.
Fans, new and old alike, will be able to buy tickets at participating theaters and watch the entire story. From Anakin Skywalker taking part in pod races, to…whatever happens to Rey in the new movie.
Prices have not yet been listed for the event, and not every theater will be taking part. Be sure to check out AMC’s website for details, including those participating in the marathon. Aside from the nine movies, attendees will also be offered a $5 combo meal, commemorative blanket, pins, and more.
So fear not, fellow nerf herders. If you missed out on seeing the originals in theaters, or any of the movies, our chance will come December 18th!
And remember: do or do not; there is no try.
