Indie horror host Slo Frank, created and portrayed by actor Christopher Inlow, meets the famous rock band Faith No More in the fun collectible coloring book aptly titled Slo Frank Meets Faith No More. Authored by Inlow, the book features original artwork by illustrator Brian A.R. Washington featuring the bizarre meeting between the fictional monster and the real-life music group. The book also features the names and likenesses of the members of Faith No More with the complete blessings of the band.
Slo Frank has appeared on independent horror shows like “Monster Madhouse” and Sally the Zombie Cheerleader’s Frank and Sally holiday specials. He has also appeared with Count Gore de Vol for “Creature Feature” and was even named the National Horror Host of the Year in 2012. With that said, I was unfamiliar with Slo Frank before laying my eyes on the illustrated version, but you get to know him pretty quickly in the coloring book and he is certainly a likable enough monster. He also makes me feel nostalgic for the classic horror hosts I’d find on cable access television as budding horror fan growing up.
Slo Frank Meets Faith No More caught my attention right away with its unusual premise, reminding me of the enjoyment I’d always have watching Scooby-Doo and the gang meeting the most random real-life celebrities in various animated specials. Unlike Scooby, the monster is not looking to solve a mystery, and his reason for bumping into Faith No More is much different than when Mystery Inc. met the Harlem Globetrotters. After meeting the band on their tour bus after a show, Slo Frank joins Faith No More for their concert tour on the road, leaving his best friend worried as he tries to find the horror host.
I found this coloring book to be quite charming with an amusing story and fun illustrations. Of course, fans of Faith No More will particularly enjoy the coloring book, and it also makes for a great collectible for people looking to support independent artists. Honestly, the collector in me wants to leave the pages inside black and white, but as the images look pretty fun to color, I think I’m gonna have to bust out the colored pencils for this one.
