Sony held its PS5 reveal conference on Thursday, and it did not disappoint. The company showed off a ton of upcoming games, as well as the first look at their upcoming PlayStation 5 console, the Dual Sense controller, and some additional peripherals.
The show started off with that iconic Rockstar logo, causing blood pressure spikes around the globe. But no, it was not a GTA VI reveal. Rockstar will be bringing GTA V to the PS5 in the second half of 2021, and as they state, it will be enhanced and expanded. Could this possibly mean single-player DLC? I’m certainly hoping so. For the first 3-months after the game’s launch, players will receive a standalone version of GTA Online free, and in addition, starting today, PS4 players will be getting $1M in-game payments each month leading up to the GTA V launch on PS5.
Fan’s of 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man will be happy to learn they won’t have to wait long to start swinging through the streets of New York again. Coming holiday season 2020 (this year!), the next chapter in the web-slinging series, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, will hit PS5.

That wasn’t all we saw of new first-party exclusives. We got our first look at Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 7, with no release date known as of yet. My favorite announcement of the show (slightly beating out Miles Morales) is the upcoming sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy is back in Guerilla Game’s upcoming Horizon: Forbidden West.
Sequels to some fan-favorite series are coming to the PS5, such as NBA 2K21 and the new game in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil: Village.
Some new IPs introduced during the conference include Project Athia (from a team of writers led by Rogue One writer Gary Whitta) and Deathloop (which looks to be a rad combination of Bioshock and Dishonored from Arkane Studios). Stray, a game in which you’re a cat in a world of robots, and Bugsnax,a very weird-looking game where various foods are animals and you become what you eat, are just a few of the new titles from indie developers shown today.
Finally, what everyone wants to know. PS5 stuff. The PlayStation 5 is a beautiful two-toned sleek tower full of curves, definitely a far cry from the established PlayStation look. The main console will come equipped with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive. There will also be a digital version of the console that lacks the disc drive for those who prefer to download their games, rather than keep them on a shelf.

Sony also showed off a handful of peripherals that will enhance the experience of the PS5:
- a DualSense charging station, capable of charging up to two DualSense controllers at once
- HD Camera, equipped with dual 1080p lenses for those who want to stream from the console with facecam.
- The PULSE3D wireless headset with 3D audio support and dual noise-canceling microphones
- Media Remote with a built-in microphone to make browsing streaming services that much easier between gaming sessions.
Unfortunately, no pricing or release date was announced for the PS5 or the PS5 Digital Edition. Sony Interactive Entertainment will announce these details and more at a later date.
Some other games announced/shown off today include:
- Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart (Insomniac Games)
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital/XDEV)
