Since last summer, fans of the supernatural horror show The Institute have been waiting for new episodes to make their way to MGM+. The series was officially renewedin August 2025, but it has since remained unclear when the new season will arrive. Finally, Stephen King, who wrote the novel that the series is based upon, delivered an exciting update on Season 2’s progress.
With a post on X, King announced that production on Season 2 of The Institute has officially begun, promising that Season 2 is now “coming soon.” He included an image of the cover page for the Season 2 premiere, written by Benjamin Cavell and directed by Jack Bender. While a premiere date hasn’t yet been set, getting filming underway on the second season is a big step forward.
The series stars Mary-Louise Parker, Ben Barnes, and Joe Freeman. Simone Miller and Fionn Laird also star. The show tells the story of children and teens with special abilities who wake up in a mysterious institute where they are subjected to experimentation.

“I was playing someone with superpowers who was a genius, so it was all kind of compacted together,” Freeman said of his role in a previous interview with Horror Geek Life. “So it was trying to find that balance between this genius character and a kid, and me as an eighteen-year-old. It was trying to find out the perfect balance and how to make it all work together, you know?”
