After fifteen years and six films, the Resident Evil film series will conclude with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. This week, a more in-depth trailer was released at New York Comic Con and leaves us wondering how it will all end.
Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the film picks up immediately after Resident Evil: Retribution. We find that our bad ass hero, Alice (Milla Jovovich), is trying once again to save what is left of humanity. In a twist, she is approached by the Umbrella Corporation’s A.I. system, Red Queen, in a bid to get revenge against Dr. Alexander Isaacs (Iain Glen) and others like him. Red Queen is offering a cure for the T-Virus, which sends Alice back into the Hive where it all began.
In addition to Milla Jovovich and Iain Glen, we will also see Ali Larter return as Claire Redfield and Shawn Roberts return as Albert Wesker. A few new faces will include William Levy as Christian Ruby Rose as Abigail, Eoin Macken as Doc and Lee Joon-gi as Commander Lee.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’s action-packed trailer pulls inspiration from Mad Max: Fury Road, but seemingly stays true to its typical formula that franchise fans have come to recognize and expect. Although each film generally meets negative reviews upon release, the Resident Evil series is still incredibly successful financially, grossing $915 million worldwide. There is little doubt that The Final Chapter will meet the same conclusion when the film is released. Especially since this marks the end of an era.
The US release date will be January 27, 2017.
