Misfits

An all-American remake of cult UK superhero show Misfits has been rumored for some time, but it now seems the show will indeed be receiving the reboot treatment, with the announcement that a pilot has been ordered by Freeform.

Misfits was a long running show about a merry band of young offenders, who find themselves endowed with super powers following a freak meteor shower. The majority of the show was set in the local community center where their community service took place, and was as working class as you can get. Sure, it wasn’t the most original of premises, but it was by far one of the very best series to grace TV screens, with some truly far out characters finding themselves in some weird and wonderful situations.

The proposed US remake will likely be missing much of the crass humour of the UK original, as it is being developed by a company which falls under the banner of Disney. Instead of the balls to the wall approach Channel 4 took, Freeform will be more inclined to appeal to the teen market, in the hope that the show will acquire some of that lucrative Disney/Marvel rub

So far, Ashleigh LaThrop (Fifty Shades Darker), Tre Hall (Hufflepuff: A Harry Potter Rap Parody), Allie MacDonald (House at the End of the Street) and Jake Cannavale (Nurse Jackie) have all been announced as cast members, with more to come. The UK Misfits ran for 5 seasons, and featured well-known actors such as Joseph Gilgun (Preacher) and Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones), both of whom were perhaps the most iconic characters in the entire show.
