Dead by Daylight is a survival horror game that allows up to four players to try and escape a fifth player, acting as a killer. The four players get to choose which specific survivor they want to be, while the fifth chooses which killer to play as. Survivors have the option of choosing characters such as the athletic and feisty Meg Thomas and the nerdy “Science Girl” Claudette Morel. On the flip side, players going in as the killer can choose from being The Trapper, The Hillbilly, The Nurse and The Wraith. Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses that they bring to the game. The maps depend on the killer and range from the typical old-school horror film settings, such as the woods and an asylum.
Now, Dead by Daylight’s upcoming update expands on that retro horror film game play by adding one of the most iconic slashers in horror history- Michael Myers. Yes, they are bringing players John Carpenter’s Halloween this August! But the killer isn’t the only update coming to the game. Survivors will be able to play as Michael Myers’ sister and ultimate girl-next-door, Laurie Strode. Of course, what would the update be without the Haddonfield experience? A new suburban map will be available for players to explore.
This may be the first of several licensed slashers that the game has planned. There is no doubt that horror fans have wanted to play as their beloved franchise characters for decades. Between this and Friday the 13th: The Game, which will allow us to play as survivors and Jason, horror fans should definitely be happy.
The game has been available on PC, where it has already sold more than 1.8 million copies. It has just launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
