First in casting news for the Transformers spin-off film Bumblebee is the addition of actor Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as the lead male. His name and face may be familiar, as he plays Jason Ionello alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).

Next up in casting news is the addition of actors Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny. There are no details about their characters as of yet, but it’s hard not to notice how young the main cast is. Of course, as we recently reported, Golden Globe nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld (The Edge of Seventeen) will star as the film’s female lead.

While many details about the plot haven’t been released yet, we do know that Bumblebee is a prequel to the already established film series. It will focus on the popular Autobot Bumblebee and will be set in 1985. The film will be directed by Travis Knight, with a script written by Christina Hodson. This will mark Knight’s live-action directorial debut. His previous films include Coraline (2009), ParaNorman (2012), and Kubo and the Two Strings (2016). Hodson is best known for writing Shut In (2016), starring Naomi Watts.

Bumblebee begins filming soon and will be in theaters June 8, 2018.
