Perhaps the only films just as fun to watch as horror flicks are the documentaries made about them. For major fans, it’s always interesting to see just how some of our favorite genre films came to be. Find out which ones to watch out for as we take a look at six upcoming horror documentaries which have us intrigued the most.

4In Search of Darkness

Rather than focusing on one specific horror film, In Search of Darkness will be examining the horror movie boom of the ’80s as a whole. It’s going to be a complete retrospective that touches on all of the most popular films and franchises to be released in the era, including Friday the 13thFright NightA Nightmare on Elm StreetChild’s PlayThey Live, and so much more. Specifically, the film will be celebrating these films by exploring the impact they’ve all left on pop culture.

Every aspect of ’80s horror films will be touched on in the upcoming doc. We’ll get to hear more about the creations of iconic villains like Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and Pinhead. Popular actors from the ’80s like Bruce Campbell, Robert Englund, and Jeffrey Combs will also have their stories touched upon as well. From looking at the various VHS covers and poster art these movies had to offer, to the political issues at the time which inspired a lot of their stories, the doc isn’t leaving any stone unturned.

Those of us who were around for the rise of these films can especially appreciate revisiting them in this documentary. It will also make an excellent watch for newer horror fans who may have missed out on that era completely.   1. I grew up with Nightmare on Elm Street 2 when it was on HBO alot back then in the early mid 1980s right before Elm Street 3. Back then when Elm Street 2 was just a sequel and that was it. None of that bullcrap about the movie being “gay” or whatever
