Top 10 Horror Video Games We’ll Never Get to Play

Some of the most intriguing horror games are the ones which have never been released. Let’s cry a little inside as we go through ten of the most promising horror video games that we’ll never, ever get to play.

1Silent Hills (PS4)

Konami

Silent Hills is always going to top any list like this, but there’s a good reason for it. Not only was it likely to be the best game in the Silent Hill franchise, the planned game could have potentially been one of the greatest horror games ever. What gives this bold prediction such credibility is just how well its playable teaser, called P.T., did on the Playstation Store. As basically an interactive advertisement, playing the far-too-short demo made for a beautifully horrifying experience for gamers.

All of the right pieces were there for Silent Hills to be an incredible game. It was to feature a collaboration between Hideo Kajima and Guillermo del Toro, with fan favorite actor Norman Reedus starring as the protagonist. Players would have controlled a character using the voice and likeness of Reedus, and given the creative talent involved, it’s safe to presume that the story would have been solid. So much anticipation was quickly built around Silent Hills, even with gamers who normally didn’t play many horror games.

Just a matter of months after its announcement, however, Silent Hills faded away just as quickly. Turmoil behind the scenes with Konami led to Kojima departing the company, effectively killing the game dead in its tracks. In response, nearly 200,000 gamers signed a petition urging those involved to complete the game, showing just how desired it really is. In 2017, one talented fan went as far as to recreate P.T. for PC, releasing it for free online. It seems everyone wants to see the game happen except Konami, but as the years pass by, Silent Hills now seems to be nothing more than a beautiful pipe dream.
