10 Original Horror Films Releasing in 2019

Is Hollywood running out of ideas? Sometimes, it sure seems that way, given the exorbitant number of reboots and sequels we see hitting the big screen every year. With remakes likeĀ Child’s Play and sequels likeĀ It: Chapter Two on the horizon, it’s clear the trend isn’t dying down anytime soon. Still, there are plenty of original horror films set to arrive in 2019, and you’ll want to watch out for these ten…

6Brightburn

Directed by:Ā David Yarovesky

Starring:Ā Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, and Jackson A. Dunn

Release date: May 24, 2019

James Gunn is very talented when it comes to working on superhero movies, as we’ve seen from hisĀ Guardians of the Galaxy films. The filmmaker is also currently penning the script for an upcomingĀ Suicide Squad reboot. But horror fans will remember that he’s just as talented when it comes to the horror genre as well, given his work on movies likeĀ Slither andĀ Dawn of the Dead.

The upcoming movieĀ Brightburn will be co-produced by Gunn, and it basically seems to be the best of both worlds. That’s right, it’s part horror, part superhero movie. It tells the story of an alien life form with superpowers that crash-lands on Earth, and is raised by his adoptive parents to use his powers for good. However, as he grows more and more powerful, the “superhero” switches sides and becomes an unstoppable supervillain. Basically, it asks the question of what would happen if Superman turned out to be evil instead of a hero.

Gunn isn’t writing or directing, but his fingerprints are clearly all over this. We can’t wait to check this one out when it hits the big screen in May.

Synopsis:Ā What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.
