10 Original Horror Films Releasing in 2019

Is Hollywood running out of ideas? Sometimes, it sure seems that way, given the exorbitant number of reboots and sequels we see hitting the big screen every year. With remakes likeĀ Child’s Play and sequels likeĀ It: Chapter Two on the horizon, it’s clear the trend isn’t dying down anytime soon. Still, there are plenty of original horror films set to arrive in 2019, and you’ll want to watch out for these ten…

5The Curse of La Llorona

Directed by:Ā Michael Chaves

Starring: Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, Patricia VelÔsquez, and Marisol Ramirez

Release date: May 3, 2019

Co-produced by James Wan, Gary Dauberman, and Emile Gladstone, some strong horror names are attached toĀ The Curse of La Llorona. Inspired by the actual Latin American folklore of La Llorona (a.k.a. the Weeping Woman), the legend has been referenced in pop culture many times before, with the character even serving as the antagonist in theĀ Supernatural pilot episode. Finally, she’ll be getting her due on the big screen in 2019 with this new film from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros.

Set in the ’70s,Ā The Curse of La Llorona is about the titular ghost haunting children in Los Angeles. Investigating caseworker Anna Garcia discovers the Weeping Woman’s supernatural realm while looking into the disappearances of children. In response, La Llorona takes Anna’s own children, and she must use the help of a local healer to save her kids from the mythical being – along with any others she can find in its world.

Lead actress Linda Cardellini may have some experience dealing with the “supernatural” as Velma in theĀ Scooby-Doo movies, but the Weeping Woman is going to be much more dangerous than anything Mystery Inc. has ever seen.

Synopsis:Ā In 1970s Los Angeles, the legendary ghost La Llorona is stalking the night — and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother, a social worker and her own kids are drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope of surviving La Llorona’s deadly wrath is a disillusioned priest who practices mysticism to keep evil at bay.
