Is Hollywood running out of ideas? Sometimes, it sure seems that way, given the exorbitant number of reboots and sequels we see hitting the big screen every year. With remakes likeĀ Child’s Play and sequels likeĀ It: Chapter Two on the horizon, it’s clear the trend isn’t dying down anytime soon. Still, there are plenty of original horror films set to arrive in 2019, and you’ll want to watch out for these ten…
7Midsommar
Directed by:Ā Ari Aster
Starring:Ā Jack Reynor, Florence Pugh, and Will Poulter
Release date: August 9, 2019
When Ari Aster released his feature directorial debut filmĀ Hereditary last year, he instantly became a horror icon. The movie became a critical hit and is regarded by many fans as the best horror film of 2018. With a strong story and superb acting, the film made over $79 million on a budget of just $9 million. It wasn’t going to be long before Aster was hired to shoot another film, which will be the upcoming summer horror flickĀ Midsommar.
Also written and directed by Aster,Ā Midsommar was shot entirely in Budapest, Hungary. It’s about a vacationing couple traveling to Sweden for a mid-summer festival, expecting nothing short of a good time. Instead, they find themselves as unwitting participants in a deadly cult’s competition.
Can Aster capture lightning in a bottle twice? It’s hard to say, given how little we’ve seen of this movie so far. Given just how amazingĀ Hereditary is, however, we’re definitely looking forward to Aster’s follow-up film.
Synopsis:Ā A couple travels to Sweden to visit their friendās rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.
