‘Halloween H20’: 10 Things You May Not Know

Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later may no longer exist in the current Halloween continuity, but many franchise fans still remember the flick fondly. Let’s revisit the 1998 slasher sequel with these ten killer facts about the film!

4Parts 4, 5, and 6 were originally acknowledged

The Halloween movie series continuity is somewhat of a jumbled mess, given how many alternate timelines exist in the franchise. After Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers restored the original timeline ignored by the previous movie, that storyline would continue for the next two sequels. For the seventh movie, however, the decision was made to disregard parts 4, 5, and 6, instead only acknowledging the first two movies in the series.

It would seem that the reason for tossing out these sequels from the story is due to the difficulties in tying Laurie Strode back into the plot after the fourth film killed her off. In that movie, Danielle Harris plays Strode’s orphaned daughter, Jamie Lloyd, as it’s revealed that Laurie had been killed in an automobile accident. At the time, this was done as a way to continue the original story while writing out Laurie, as it didn’t seem likely she would ever return to the Halloween franchise. If they only knew what would happen in 1998 and then again in 2018…

Originally, however, Kevin Williamson had written in a link to parts 4, 5, and 6 in his draft of Halloween H20. The idea was that Laurie had faked her death and gone into the Witness Protection Program, giving her a new name and identity outside of Haddonfield. One of Laurie’s students was also written to give an oral report on the Michael Myers murders, referencing Jamie Lloyd’s death in Halloween 6. This would have prompted Laurie to vomit in despair after learning her daughter had been killed by Michael. Although this scene was axed from the story, a newspaper clipping about Laurie’s alleged death can still be seen in the opening credits of the film’s final cut.
