‘Halloween H20’: 10 Things You May Not Know

Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later may no longer exist in the current Halloween continuity, but many franchise fans still remember the flick fondly. Let’s revisit the 1998 slasher sequel with these ten killer facts about the film!

8The fourth wall is broken with Scream 2

There’s a moment in the film where teenagers are watching the horror movie sequel Scream 2. It is very common in horror films for characters to be watching other classic movies from the genre, so this reference in itself is not unusual. However, if you think about it, showing the existence of Scream 2 in Halloween H20 shouldn’t be possible, as the Halloween movies exist in the Scream movie canon.

In the first Scream, Randy (Jamie Kennedy) is watching a scene from the first Halloween, cheering for Laurie Strode. This shows that Michael Myers is a fictional character in the Scream universe, same as ours. So how can people in the Halloween universe be watching a Scream movie? Casual fans may not notice or care, but referencing the Scream films in H20 totally obliterates the fourth wall.

Humorously enough, it even goes a little bit deeper than that. Guess who also worked on Scream 2 as a stunt performer? Christopher Durand, who plays Michael Myers in Halloween H20. In fact, Durand had even served as a double for the Ghostface killer in Scream 2. How’s that for an Easter egg?
