During the Nintendo Nindies Showcase at GDC 2019 today, it was revealed that Cuphead will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch next month. The run-and-gun, savagely difficult platformer made its debut as an Xbox One/PC exclusive back in 2017. This port obviously comes hand-in-hand with the recent news of Xbox Live integration for the Nintendo Switch being in the works.
“We’ll be working with Studio MDHR to implement Xbox Live features into Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch in the coming months,” Microsoft commented via a post on Xbox Wire.

Also announced launching alongside the Nintendo Switch release is a major update bringing things like localized text in additional languages such as French, Italian, German, Japanese, and more. The update also brings character selection to Cuphead, with players now able to take control of Mugman instead of Cuphead if they so choose. All the cinematics in-game will be fully animated, as well as tons of new animation and art such as new fight intros for Cuphead and Mugman, and more tweaks to various game animations.
Cuphead is available for pre-order in the eShop now and will hit the Nintendo Switch on April 18th. Check out the new announcement trailer below and click here to read our review of Cuphead on Xbox One.
Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings.
