Cube Escape: Paradox is the tenth game in Rusty Lake’s game series, Cube Escape, and it is only fair to mention upfront that this is first game in the franchise this writer has played. However, as you will read in this review, it is safe to say that playing any of the other games in the series is not required for a great experience with Paradox.
The game follows detective Dale Vandermeer as he awakens in a locked room, unaware of how he got there. His spirit is trapped between two universes and he must find his way out of the room while piecing together his memories. Before he can leave, Vandermeer must gather clues and solve different types of puzzles orchestrated by an old enemy to get the key.
Something that really sets Cube Escape: Paradox apart as point-and-click adventure and puzzle game is the crossover with an actual short film, Paradox: A Rusty Lake Film, (available on Steam for free), that gives even more details and story. There are live-action events that take place within game, and the scenes are well integrated and add quite a bit to the player experience. The story may seem simple in the beginning, but as it unravels, you truly look forward to finding out more about detective Dale Vandermeer.

There are a variety of puzzles to solve, and while the difficulty level ranges between relaxing and challenging, they are never too perplexing and remain enjoyable throughout the game’s entirety. Hints are available, although clicking takes you to an external Discord link, and there’s an option to watch a video walkthrough, which is also an external link but does not require a login.
Fans of point-and-click adventure and puzzle games should not hesitate to add Cube Escape: Paradox to their library, as the game has a lot to offer. Plus, the first chapter is free, with “Chapter 2” DLC just $2.99. The game showed at the 2019 SXSW Gaming Expo and is now available on iOs, Android, Steam, and Itch.io.
