E3 2019 is still under way, and Nintendo has been nailing it with their Nintendo Direct presentation. We’ve gotten to see tons of sneak peeks and trailers at new titles heading to the Switch, and there’s plenty here to be excited about. For fans of the Animal Crossing games, however, there was no greater update from the event than the update on the next title for the Switch, which includes gameplay footage and a release date!
Called Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game looks like the same style of gameplay we know and love but with an updated look and several new features. Sadly, the trailer also reveals that the game will be coming later than originally announced. Rather than coming out in 2019, the game won’t release until March 20, 2020. It’s a little disappointing that the wait will have to last a bit longer, but at least now we finally know exactly when it’s coming.
You can take a look at the official trailer below.
Animal Crossing first came to be back in 2001 with the original title on the Nintendo Gamecube (Nintendo 64 in Japan). Players assume the role of a human character moving to a new town filled with anthropomorphic animals. Taking place in real time, players can build and customize their homes with money earned through various tasks (fishing, bug hunting, etc.). You can also make friends with the animals in your town by doing small favors for them.
It may seem like a simple sim game on the surface, but its surprisingly addictive gameplay has turned the series into a successful franchise. Almost every major Nintendo console to be released since has had their own Animal Crossing sequel, with Wild World on the Nintendo DS, City Folk on the Wii, and New Leaf on the Nintendo 3DS. Now that the Switch has been around for a while, fans have been highly anticipating a new edition of the game.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons will arrive on the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020.
