Disney is Re-Releasing Classic ‘Lion King’ and ‘Aladdin’ Games

The Lion King and Aladdin / Disney

Two classic Disney video games from the early ’90s are coming back for a remastered re-release on new consoles. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the House of Mouse will soon release Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. As you would expect, the updated release will feature HD graphics, instant save states, and a rewind button feature to easily fix mistakes (let’s call it “very easy” mode).

Several different versions of the classic games will be included in this re-release. It will feature versions of both games from the Sega Genesis and Nintendo’s Game Boy and Super Game Boy. It also includes the Super Nintendo version of The Lion King, while inexplicably omitting the SNES version of Aladdin. However, it makes up for that absence by including a previously unreleased “final cut” of the Aladdin game along with its “trade show demo.”

ncluding both games titled Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King, will launch this fall on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and features upgraded HD graphics, instant save states and a rewind button that allows players to back up to 15 seconds of gameplay and a new, previously unreleased “final cut” of Aladdin as well as a “trade show demo” of the title not made public since 1993. Bonus features will also feature behind-the-scenes interviews and art galleries.

In my experience, I remember The Lion King being insanely difficult while Aladdin is surprisingly fun with tons of replay value. Not playing the games for over two decades will definitely make make revisiting them an interesting experience. Truth be told, I’m curious to see if The Lion King will be any easier as an adult with more gaming experience.

Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King launches this fall and will retail for $29.99. If you’re curious to see more, you can check out a couple playthroughs of the games below.
