Leatherface is once again getting rebooted, this time at Legendary Pictures. According to Deadline, Fede Alvarez and his writing partner Rodolfo Sayagues have closed an overall deal with the company to create, develop, and produce films under their film banner Bad Hombre Films. Also as part of the deal, The Grudge and The Grudge 2 producer Shintaro Shimosawa has been hired as Bad Hombre’s Head of Production. One of the projects already revealed as a part of the deal is a new take on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which has been described as another “reboot” of the long-running horror franchise.

At this point, details are very scarce about the TCM reboot. What is known is that Chris Thomas Devlin has been signed on to pen the screenplay, but it remains to be seen if Alvarez will direct the project as well in addition to serving as a producer. Previously, Alvarez helmed the Evil Dead quasi-reboot film in addition to the critically-acclaimed horror hit Don’t Breathe, lending some credence to his team doing well with the next TCM film. Still, with many filmgoers starting to suffer from “reboot fatigue,” there may not be as much excitement for a new TCM movie after the franchise has already been reimagined so many times.

Before TCM, Bad Hombre Films will first be producing an original horror film for Legendary under the new deal. Their first project, which is currently untitled, is set in Washington D.C. and described as “The Shining meets the White House.” We’ve seen the nation’s capital come under attack before in various alien invasion movies like Mars Attacks! and Independence Day, but a psychological horror story unfolding in the Oval Office certainly sounds like a lot of fun in its own way.

Stay tuned for more updates on both of these projects!
