Gary Dauberman to Write and Direct ‘Salem’s Lot’ Reboot

A new adaptation of the classic Stephen King horror story Salem’s Lot is in the works at New Line, and the studio has found its director for the project. In addition to writing the screenplay for the new Salem’s Lot, Gary Dauberman will be directing the feature film as well, and his experience adapting iconic King novels should definitely come in handy. James Wan, Roy Lee, and Mark Wolper are also on board as producers.

Dauberman’s work as a screenwriter in Hollywood is very well-known, particularly within the horror genre. After co-writing the original 2017 movie adaptation of Stephen King’s It, Dauberman wrote the screenplay for the sequel It: Chapter Two. He has also written several installments of The Conjuring‘s horror movie universe, including Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, and last year’s Annabelle Comes Home; Dauberman directed Annabelle Comes Home as well, making the horror sequel his directorial debut.

Most longtime horror fans are aware of the original television mini-series adaptation of Salem’s Lot, directed by Texas Chainsaw Massacre helmer Tobe Hooper. Starring David Soul and James Mason, the story follows a writer returning home to find that the town has been taken over by vampires. Particularly memorable from the film is the blue-hued vampire Kurt Barlow and his performance by Reggie Nalder, and the infamous “window scene” left countless children of the late ’70s forever traumatized.

Last year, it was reported that a new version of the film was in the works at New Line, but a director had not yet been named. Perhaps feeling inspired by the successful box office success of Annabelle Comes Home, New Line is now confident enough to bring on Dauberman as director in addition to penning the script. 1. What a pathetic travesty that they in their “Wokness” have ruined even Salem’s Lot. After all if we do not change every main character from a White person to a Black person or a LGTBQ character than we are all Racist, homophobes or a White Supremacist’s. I nor anyone I know will be seeing this remake of Salem’s Lot, we have all gone from fans who had been excited to just turning our back on the movie industry. Not everything needs to change or be changed. Shame on you, whoever did this, shame on you!
