Not the Mama! ‘Dinosaurs’ Hits Disney+ This Fall

Dinosaurs via ABC

Dinosaurs, the cult classic TV show from the 1990s, is coming to Disney+ this fall. The news was revealed by Ryan Reynolds on a recent airing of the game show Don’t, though no official release date was announced. This is good news for those who don’t have the home video releases of the show’s episodes, as it’s not currently available on any streaming service.

Running for four seasons, Dinosaurs  originally aired on ABC between 1991 and 1994. The comedy series featured a anthropomorphic dinosaurs, portrayed by puppets with voice actors providing the dialogue. Primarily, the series followed the Sinclair family, and the baby was particularly popular because of his oft-quoted catch phrase, “Not the mama!” A young Christopher Meloni also worked on the show as well, providing the voice of the teenage dinosaur Spike.

Of course, along with the good comes the bad, as the show’s finale will likely be included with the rest of the series when Dinosaurs starts streaming on Disney+. Those who didn’t see how the series ended might not realized that the show literally explains the extinction of the dinosaurs as an accident caused by Earl, the patriarch of the family. It’s hard to see the humor in his antics knowing that he has just destroyed all life on Earth. Obviously, we all knew something would have happened to the dinosaurs at some point, given their extinction in real life, but isn’t it still a bit strange that a family-friendly comedy series would end with a fan favorite character inadvertently killing everyone on the planet?

In any case, so as long as you skip the series finale, there are lots of laughs to be had with binge-watching a show like Dinosaurs, so anyone nostalgic for the classic series might want to check it out when it hits Disney+ this fall.
