‘Halloween Kills’, ‘The Forever Purge’, ‘Candyman’ Get New Release Dates

Blumhouse / Universal

While film delays and release changes are becoming the norm for 2020, it is still far from disappointing at times. Today, we learned that three highly-anticipated horror films officially have new release dates.

Shortly after we released the news that John Carpenter says Halloween Kills is a “fun, intense and brutal, a slasher movie times one hundred,” the Master of Horror released an official confirmation that the film will be delayed.

The statement says, “We write this heartbroken over the fact that the delay of our film is even a discussion, but if there’s one thing that a career in the film industry has prepared us for, it is the unexpected.” He goes on to explain, “If we release it in October of this year as planned, we have to face the reality that the film would be consumed in a compromised theatrical experience. After weighing our options, we have chosen to push the film’s theatrical release by one year. He goes on to reveal that “On top of a traditional release, Universal has agreed to an IMAX presentation of the film in October 2021. We are sound mixing with one of the greatest design teams that can slash, scream, and creep their way under your skin. We’re going to have time to complete the film with the quality that fans deserve.”

With the project ready to go, he also confirms that “preparation on Halloween Ends has begun as well.”

Another major Blumhouse production delay is the fifth and final installment of The Purge series, The Forever Purge. The film was set to release this month, but will now hit theaters on July 9, 2021.

Last but not least, director Nia DaCosta’s upcoming Candyman sequel will get only a slight delay from September 25, 2020, to October 16, 2020. Let’s hope that’s the only delay the film sees.
