Learn how James Bond came to be known as Agent 007 in the next video game project from IO Interactive. Tentatively called Project 007, a teaser trailer has been released for the new title, though it doesn’t yet give us a peek at any gameplay footage. Still, considering the studio involved — the creators of the Hitman and Kane and Lynch games — there’s plenty here for fans to start getting excited about.
Touted as an origin story for James Bond, Project 007 will presumably follow the popular fictional spy at the very start of his career, a contrast to every other story where he’s already doing what he does best as Agent 007. As players take control of Bond, it will be up to them to earn the iconic numeric moniker that Bond would become famous for.
It’s also not known how James will appear in the game. Potentially, the developers could use the likeness of Daniel Craig, who will be featured in his fifth and final appearance as the character in No Time to Die. Previous Bond actors like Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery are also possibilities, so as long as IO can acquire the necessary rights. As this will be an origin story, however, there also seems to be a good chance that IO’s video game Bond will have an original look.

IO Interactive’s next game, Hitman 3, will be out in 2021, and there’s no word yet on when Project 007 might be released. You can check out the teaser trailer for Project 007 below, and you can sign up to be updated on its progress at the official website.
