E3 2021: 10 Things We Want to See

e3 2021

E3 is fast approaching and, as usual, hype is building. For a solid 4 days, game companies from around the world enter the spotlight as they show off what’s new and coming from their respective markets. Here are 10 things we hope make an appearance at E3 2021

1BioShock 4

A new BioShock game was confirmed to be in development way back in 2019, via a tweet put out by publisher 2K Games. The tweet made sure to clarify that the game would be “in development for the next several years,” making this E3 a great time to hint or tease the game. Maybe a title? Maybe a confirmation on the rumor that the game will be open-world? I’m not expecting much, but if we get anything I’ll be a very happy camper.

2Breath of the Wild 2

We’ll definitely be getting a new look at Nintendo’s Breath of the Wild 2, and possibly even a release date. Announced at E3 2019, Breath of the Wild 2 was birthed from the studio just having too many ideas while creating DLC for the first game. Rumors point to a Holiday 2021 release date with certainty, but even if the game is released in Q1 2022, it’ll be a big deal to get a release date at E3.

3Knights of the Old Republic Remake

News of the KOTOR remake resurfaced recently, and while news of a new version of the Star Wars game has been in the news on and off for a few years, I would absolutely love to see some confirmation of this at E3 this weekend. Aspyr, known primarily for ports (including KOTOR on mobile and Mac), is rumored to be heading up the remake that is said to be utilizing elements from both games and bringing them into Star Wars canon. We could see this announced possibly at the Xbox conference on Sunday as Knights of the Old Republic was Xbox exclusive for quite a long time.

4Xbox News

I’d love to see some interesting news come out of Xbox’s conference on Sunday. They’ve been doing very well this gen, especially with all the studios they have acquired over the past few years. I would love a peek at what they’re doing with these studios. Some exclusive news would be great as well. I also feel like we’ll get a doozy of an announcement regarding Game Pass, possibly an EA-like addition involving Ubisoft. We’ll have to see.

5Elder Scrolls 6

With Xbox/Bethesda’s conference arguably being the biggest thing happening at E3 this year, we’re hoping to see quite a few amazing announcements, one of which being the elusive Elder Scrolls 6. ES6 was revealed back at E3 2018 with a basic teaser showing Elder Scrolls VI in the iconic font. While we’d love to get a release date and some gameplay, that might just be a bit too hopeful. Bethesda has already come out and said that Elder Scrolls VI won’t be releasing until after their brand new IP, Starfield, and that doesn’t even have a release date yet. While a good look at one of the most anticipated games at the moment would be nice, we’re not holding our breath.

6Nintendo Switch Pro

The new Switch hardware is all but confirmed at this point, and we believe will definitely make an appearance at Nintendo’s conference next week. According to rumors, the new edition will have an OLED screen and be capable of 4K gaming. Nintendo recently confirmed that the next console is in the works, but we don’t know yet if that’s the Switch Pro. The company also clarified that the Nintendo Switch is halfway through its life-cycle, signalling an ideal time to launch a beefed up version to satiate fans before the brand-new console.

7Indiana Jones

Heading back to the Xbox/Bethesda conference, a game we have a better chance at seeing is Bethesda’s upcoming Indiana Jones game. The game was announced at the beginning of the year, and will be a collaborative effort between Lucasfilm Games and Bethesda Softworks with Wolfenstein studio, MachineGames, behind the wheel. The untitled Indiana Jones game will take us on a brand-new adventure taking place during Indy’s prime. With Xbox’s acquisition of Bethesda this year, there are whispers that the upcoming game will be exclusive to the Xbox family of gaming consoles.

8Metroid News

Ever since being announced at E3 2017, Metroid Prime 4 has had a turbulent development. Despite Nintendo’s confidence in the game, they opted out of showing it at 2018’s E3 stating they’d only showcase the game when they “had something that would wow people.” In 2019, disappointed by the quality of the game, Nintendo scrapped what they had and restarted development with Retro Studios at the helm this time, instead of Bandai Namco Studios. Fast forward two years, it’s E3 2021 and we’re hoping Retro has something they’re proud of and would like to show us!

9A Better Look At Halo Infinite

Back in July 2020, we got a good look at Halo Infinite with videos showcasing the setting and look of the game along with the semi-open world aspect of it. Last year’s glimpse of the game spawned many memes targeting Craig the Brute, and honestly rightly so. I’d love to see some updated graphics; we need justice for Craig. If the game is indeed coming out this year, the multiplayer should be shown off as well, especially since it’ll be free-to-play at launch. We’ll definitely get some major Halo Infinite news/footage on Sunday at Xbox’s conference.

10The Wolf Among Us 2

After TellTale Games‘ unfortunately shuttering in 2018, hope of ever seeing any of their IPs receive new installments wasn’t high. Fast forward to The Game Awards 2019, a teaser was shown for The Wolf Among Us 2, shocking fans of the series. After reviving Telltale, LCG Entertainment acquired the IP for The Wolf Among Us, along with others. The game will be developed with help from AdHoc Studios, and will be starting from scratch, using nothing previously created prior to Telltale closing up. We’re really hoping we see some TWAU news this year. The first game was incredible and definitely deserves a follow-up.

These predictions are what we expect/would like to see from this year’s E3. Whether we get all of these, or none of these, we’re looking forward to seeing what this year’s event has to offer. What are you hoping to see?
