Panos Cosmatos, the writer and director behind the psychedelic horror films Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010) and Mandy (2018), has announced that he will team with A24 and XYZ Films to create his next film, Nekrokosm.
Where XYZ Films has worked with Cosmatos on his previous two films, A24 will handle the global distribution of his upcoming release. A24 has started to shine in the world of horror, producing major wins in the genre throughout the last decade, including The VVitch, Midsommar, The Lighthouse, and most recently, Ti West’s X.
Panos Cosmatos says Nekrokosm is a sci-fi fantasy film. The plot is described as “deep within a strange galaxy, two lovers are torn apart as they try to survive a malevolent invasion in this phantasmagorical fantasy nightmare.” Cosmatos will be penning the story with Meagan Houang.

We’re certain there will be some horror elements in Nekrokosm, as Cosmatos’ directing style was especially memorable in Mandy, where he was able to create an artistic and beautiful love story at the core of an extremely brutal and gory revenge film, using Nicolas Cage as his vessel to deliver the goods.
Though not much else about Nekrokosm has been released, horror fans are getting another taste of Cosmatos’ work, as he directed an episode of Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming anthological horror series, Cabinet of Curiosities.
