Very few directors have the inarguable talent to seamlessly blend genres, but David Cronenberg has proven his abilities countless times after releasing films like The Fly, Scanners, and Videodrome. While most of Cronenberg’s films over the last two decades have fallen more into the drama or thriller genres, his next film on deck, Crimes of the Future, seems to be jumping solidly into his body horror and science fiction roots.

The IMDB synopsis of Crimes of the Future reads:
A deep dive into the not-so-distant future in which humankind is learning to adapt to its synthetic surroundings. This evolution moves humans beyond their natural state and into a metamorphosis, which alters their biological makeup.
Along with directing the film, Cronenberg also wrote the story. Cronenberg film alumni Viggo Mortensen (A History of Violence, Eastern Promises) will helm the cast, and will be joined by Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux (Spectre), Scott Speedman (The Strangers), and Tanaya Beatty (Yellowstone).
Cronenberg directed, wrote, edited, shot, and released a short science fiction film in 1970, also titled Crimes of the Future, but his new release is not a remake of his short film.
Though not too much of the plot is given away by the trailer and synopsis, Crimes of the Future seems like it will fall within the wheelhouse of Possessor or Antiviral, two films written and directed by his son, Brandon Cronenberg.
