During Xbox’s Showcase stream on Sunday during Summer Game Fest 2022, the newest game from Squanch Games, founded by Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland, was revealed in all its absurd glory. High On Life is the first non-VR title from the studio, and it’s coming later this year to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
High On Life is about the player, a newly graduated high school student, who is thrust into the life of intergalactic bounty hunting in order to save the world from the big bad Garmantuous. High On Life is a shooter, so that means guns. The twist? Each weapon comes with its own personality and will incessantly talk to the player and provide commentary on whatever is happening. Sounds like a trip!
High On Life truly looks like Squanch Games’ most ambitious project yet, with more advanced visuals, mechanics, and narrative. During the reveal, we got a look at some gameplay featuring the signature Justin Roiland comedy and, of course, his stellar voice acting.

A press release from Justin Roiland shared his thoughts on the game:
“I wanted to make games that I wanted to play, and that was the spark that sort of lit the fire of Squanch Games. Then we shipped Trover, we shipped Accounting+, and now we’re on this absolute dream game that we were kind of building towards this whole time.”
High On Life will launch on Xbox and PC in October 2022.
