Paramount Pictures has released two new posters for Scream 6 (also stylized as Scream VI), both dropping hints and Easter eggs about the upcoming slasher sequel. Leaving Woodsboro behind, the new film will travel to New York City as Scream 5 (AKA Scream) survivors Sam and Tara Carpenter (played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega) and twins Mindy and Chad (played by Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding) move forward.
The first Scream 6 poster dropped on Christmas Day, showing a whimsical Times Square setting featuring Ghostface on billboards. It was accompanied by the caption, “what fun it is to slay tonight. “The second poster, released today, is an NYC Subway map in the shape of the iconic slasher mask, character names, and the caption, “My New Year’s resolution? Travel more.” So, what does all of this mean? Let’s break it down!
Scream 6 Times Square Poster
What jumps out first are the references to Scream 2, perhaps because part 6 will again see the survivors off to college. Scream 6 will feature the fictional Blackmore University, as seen in a red banner on the left side of the poster, while part 2 featured the fictional Windsor College.

As fans will recall, the second Scream film opens with a theatrical screening of Stab, a movie within the movie that portrays the Woodsboro murders. Stab is seen in red lights, with Stab 9 referenced below it. In the Scream universe, Stab 9 is yet to be made, but the murders in Scream 5 were based on Richie (Jack Quaid) and Amber (Mikey Madison) wanting fresh new material for the Stab series after being disappointed with Stab 8. They famously use the word “requel” to describe how they envision Stab 9 to go down, even saying final girl, Sam, was intended to be framed.
This brings us to Wrongly Accused: The Musical, which borrows from Gale Weather’s (Courteney Cox) debut book Wrongly Accused: The Maureen Prescott Murder. That was, of course, based on Cotton Weary’s (Liev Schreiber) wrongful conviction for Sidney Prescott’s murder. It seems history is set to repeat itself as Sam may face the same unjust accusations.
With Scream 5 marketed as Scream and Scream 6 taking us back to part 2, it seems this is indeed the requel Richie and Amber were waiting for. The “New York, New Rules” banner backs this theory up even more.
Scream 6 Subway Poster
The most recent poster is of an NYC subway map comprised of names of deceased characters. With two exceptions: Sam Carpenter and Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere). All subway lines lead to Sam’s name, which is prominently at the top of the map. Considering Sam is the daughter of one of the original killers, Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), it seems all roads lead back to the family.
Scream 4‘s Kirby Reed is marked “Closed,” likely because she was thought dead. However, Kirby was confirmed alive and will be featured in Scream 6.
