The original Hocus Pocus is heading back to the big screen.
When the film was first released in 1993, it didn’t quite light the box office on fire. However, its annual airings on television every Halloween season have continuously built a large following for the film in the decades since, culminating in a sequel released on Disney+ last year.
Now, it’s been announced that fans will have a chance to catch the film on the big screen, as it’s been revealed that it will screen in United States theaters starting on Oct. 6 at various theaters, including Regal and AMC locations.
Hocus Pocus was first released on July 16, 1993, by director Kenny Ortega. Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert penned the script based on a story by Garris and David Kirschner. The film stars Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker as the Sanderson Sisters, three witches resurrected in modern-day Salem on Halloween night. Omri Katz, Thora Birch, and Vinessa Shaw also starred.
The Sanderson Sisters returned for last year’s Hocus Pocus 2, written by Jen D’Angelo and directed by Anne Fletcher. The franchise is planned to continue, as it was reported earlier this year that D’Angelo and Fletcher will return to develop a third film.

As the project is early in its development and now on hiatus due to the ongoing WGA strike, it’s unclear which cast members may return, though most likely, all three Sanderson Sisters will be back.
